Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt
In conjunction with Madison City’s Parks & Recreation Dept., an annual Easter Egg hunt is held at Dublin Park. This event is open to people with disabilities of any age and their siblings. Special Needs Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with Madison City’s Parks & Recreation Dept., we host a free, annual Fishing Rodeo for people with special-needs of any age. Usually held in June at Dublin Park’s pond, this event is well attended. Pre-registration is required. Hand-in-hAND pLAYGROUND
Facilitated completion of Hand-in-Hand Playground in Palmer Park and commemorative brick wall – continue to work on issues regarding the playground as necessary and make sure maintenance is up to quality standards. MAKING WAVES
MCDAB and the Madison City YMCA sponsor dedicated pool time for people with special needs of any age. This event is held three to four times per year. Pre-registration is required. Dates and times are announced on MCDAB’s web site and Facebook page. INCLUSIVE PICNIC (COMING SOON)

HousingMCDAB recommended to City of Madison officials that land or property be set aside for housing for citizens with disabilities. The work on this issue is ongoing. |
EmploymentThis committee created their own brochure, held information booths at job fairs, and advocated for the hiring of citizens with disabilities. A training seminar for Human Resource Managers also served as a fundraiser for the board. |
Emergency PreparednessFacilitated meetings with first responders throughout Madison County to encourage planning for the needs of citizens with disabilities and created Emergency Preparedness Kits which were handed out to the public. This committee also held an Emergency Preparedness Fair for citizens with disabilities |
AccessibilityThis committee has advocated for the following: inclusion of family-style restroom in new concession building, additional handicapped parking spaces, and a new curb cut at Dublin Park; advocated for handicapped-accessible doors to the entrance of the building and more accessible restrooms at the Madison Public Library; and advocated for accessibility of the Madison Street Festival; completed a four minute educational video on accessible parking which was distributed using YouTube and social media sites; purchased an accessible barbecue grill for the Hand-in-Hand Playground at Palmer Park; worked with the city Building Department to develop signs communicating accessible routes at the Madison Municipal Building for individuals with disabilities; purchased an ADA pool chair lift for the Parks & Recreation Department. Advocating for improved accessibility in downtown Madison as part of the second phase of the city’s downtown renovation project. |
TransportationThis committee advocated for increased public awareness of the MARS Program (Madison Assisted Ride System) and advocates for transportation needs of citizens with disabilities. The committee made recommendations for improvements to the program to the City Council. |
